Day Nine, Sunday, June 27:
Today we leave for home. After loading the van, getting stopped by the Guatemalen police, (luckily Boris, our driver, had all his papers in order)
eating one last meal at Pollo Campero (the Guatemalen version of Kentucky Fried Chicken),
and some souvenir shopping at a local market in Guatemala City, we board the plane to fly home. As we flew above the clouds, we saw a rainbow over Guatemala - perhaps there is a pot of gold and better life in the future for everyone in the country. May God bless and watch over all of you! We will never forget the many friends we made during our brief stay there.
We got as far as San Salvador but then had to wait for 3 hours for a new plane (some kind of mechanical problems). We arrived in Orlando at 2:30 a.m. and waited for them to find Beth’s other suitcase in the airplane and send it though customs. However, that was ok since it gave Gabi time to repack her suitcase. She opened it to get something out, forgot to zip it shut again, and everything fell out when she stood it back up. :- ( Oh well - we were all half asleep by that time!
After a stop for coffee and Dunkin’Donuts, we were fortified and awake enough to drive home, arriving around 7:30 a.m. Monday morning, June 28th! Praise God!
